Autumn is the perfect time to get outside with the kids to do a fall nature scavenger hunt. We love to grab a bucket and go searching around the neighborhood for interesting leaves, sticks, rocks, and nuts. There is so much to see and learn as the seasons change! My seven-year-old asked me to make a printable nature scavenger hunt so that he could mark off each item as we discovered it. He’s always so organized and methodical!
We grabbed a clipboard and a pencil and walked around the neighborhood looking for each item on the list of our autumn scavenger hunt. Most of them were pretty easy to spot, but we had to get creative on a few items.
For some reason we couldn’t seem to locate a cat anywhere (there are usually a few out and about). However, my daughter noticed a jack-o-lantern carved like a cat and my son noticed a Cat excavator in a construction area so we counted them both! Sometimes a little bit of creativity and flexibility is necessary.
We wandered through the neighborhood over to a nearby park. Along the way it was so fun to watch the kids get so inquisitive about bugs, sticks, puddles, and birds. These are things they see every day, but it feels extra special to be on a hunt for each item.
Once we got to the park and completed our scavenger hunt we stayed to play in the leaves. Living in the Pacific Northwest in the fall can feel so magical!
